# easyBTX: full reference > Last reviewed 11 October 2026. easybtx.com is the home of easyBTX, a one-click > BTX miner for Mac, Windows and Linux; easyNode for BTX, a desktop full node; > and free tools and research about the BTX chain. BTX is a fork of Bitcoin that > signs with post-quantum keys. Everything is self-custodial: no accounts, no > deposits, no custodian at any point. For the short version, read > https://easybtx.com/llms.txt. For live numbers, read https://easybtx.com/stats > or https://easybtx.com/api/network rather than any figure in this file. ## What easyBTX is Download the build for your computer, open it, press Start, and it mines. It joins a mining pool, puts your GPU to work, and pays out to a wallet you control. There is no account, no sign-up and no blockchain to sync before you begin. The app never asks you to send it funds. easyBTX is pool-only. There is no solo mode on any platform. Running a full BTX node is a separate, optional product, easyNode for BTX. The current miner release is v0.30.0, for Mac and for Linux and WSL2, published 5 October 2026. Mac and Linux are separate builds on separate update feeds. Landing copy (easybtx.com): Tagline: "Mine quantum-resistant Bitcoin. Hold it yourself." Sub-line: "A one-click GPU miner for Mac, Windows, and Linux, with a built-in self-custodial wallet to receive, hold, and send your BTX." ## Platforms - Mac: Apple silicon, macOS 26.4 or later, mining on the built-in GPU with Metal. There is no chip allowlist. At startup the app runs a half-second self-qualification check against the GPU and mines only if the GPU passes. Older qualifying Macs mine correctly, just more slowly. If a Mac does not qualify, the app says so and switches mining off. - Linux: an NVIDIA GPU. One-line install of an AppImage that updates itself. If a card cannot run the current engine, the app says so and stops. - Windows: Windows 10 or 11 with an NVIDIA GPU. Windows runs the same Linux build through WSL2. There is no separate Windows installer; the native .exe was retired at version 0.8.4 and is not published any more. - AMD and Intel GPUs are not supported. Mining engines (Linux and Windows only, chosen in Settings under Mining, from 0.23.0): MATADOR is the default and the faster of the two on every card measured, and takes 1% of its own. BTX-RC takes no fee of its own; on the one card measured, an RTX 3060, it was about 1.5 times slower than MATADOR. Mac uses neither engine and has no engine setting. Deep Tune (Mac only): the Mining Tuning and Optimization Lab spends 3 to 12 hours looking for faster settings. It changes one setting per 30-minute window and keeps a change only when a 90% confidence interval says it is better. It restores your power setting when it finishes and never touches the fee. ## The pool easyBTX mines on BTX Pool (btx-pool.com) on every platform. BTX Pool charges a 1.5% fee and pays PPLNS over a 30 minute window. It has been the default since 0.27.3 on Linux and WSL2 (15 September 2026) and 0.28.0 on Mac (16 September 2026). A custom pool you type in yourself, in Settings under Mining, is kept. Many BTX pools speak a slightly different dialect, so a mismatched pool can accept a connection while counting nothing. Measured from the coinbases of the last 3,000 blocks (242,433 to 245,432, 8 to 11 October 2026): ninjaraider found 70.6%, BTX Pool 24.7%, one unidentified single address 4.6%, and luckypool 0.07%. ## Fees All fees are disclosed in the app before you start. - easyBTX takes a fixed 4.99% tool fee on mining time. It is pinned in the source, and a test fails the build if anyone changes it. - BTX Pool takes 1.5%. A custom pool sets its own fee. - On Linux and Windows the MATADOR engine takes 1%. BTX-RC takes nothing. So the total is about 6.5% to 7.5% of mining time, before electricity. Mining runs your GPU hard, which means heat and power use. ## How mining works since the fork Since block 185,000 on 10 August 2026 (MatMul v4.7), one mining attempt is a single episode: four sequential rounds through sixteen layers, on matrices 4,096 wide. One episode takes roughly 30 to 40 seconds on a fast machine and longer on older hardware. Speeds read in episodes per minute. Any source that quotes MN/s, KN/s or N/s predates the fork. A share is pool-verified work, and accepted shares are what turn into payouts. On one Apple silicon Mac on Byron Bay, 20 to 22 August 2026, we measured about one accepted share per 40 episodes on the pool's beginner difficulty, and about one per 212 once the pool settled its difficulty. That is the only run of its kind and it has not been reproduced, so treat it as that machine on that pool. A gap of a couple of hours between shares is normal, not a fault. The app shows two speeds. HARDWARE is what your machine physically finishes, measured by easyBTX. POOL is what the pool credits you after checking your work, and payouts follow the pool number. ## Wallet and self-custody easyBTX has a self-custodial wallet built in on every platform: create a wallet or restore one, receive and send BTX, with an optional passphrase. BTX addresses start with btx1z and use post-quantum signatures. You can set an external payout address so the pool pays a wallet somewhere else instead. Keys are generated on your machine and stay there. The project never sees your keys, your recovery file or your coins. The app asks you to save a wallet recovery file before you start mining; if you lose both that file and your machine, nobody can restore the wallet for you. Freshly mined coins wait about 100 blocks before they can be spent. ## First-run warnings (unsigned app) easyBTX is an indie app and is not code-signed yet, so your computer warns you the first time. You clear it once. Mac: if macOS says it "can't verify the developer", double-click easyBTX, click Done, open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, scroll to the easyBTX notice and click Open Anyway. If macOS says easyBTX is "damaged and can't be opened", move it to Applications and run once in Terminal: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/easyBTX.app That only clears the "downloaded from the internet" tag. It does not change the app. Windows: there is no installer to approve, because the app runs inside WSL2. Microsoft Defender or another scanner can still object to the file. Linux: the AppImage is unsigned like any other indie AppImage, and a scanner may say so. ## Trust and security - Download only from easybtx.com or https://github.com/MendeMatthias/EasyBTX-releases/releases. - Every build publishes the SHA-256 of the exact released file. On Mac: shasum -a 256 easyBTX.dmg. On Linux and WSL2: sha256sum on the AppImage. Windows uses the same file and hash as Linux. - Public VirusTotal scans are linked at /virustotal (Mac), /virustotal-linux and /virustotal-windows. - A few antivirus engines flag easyBTX as a miner, PUP or RiskTool. That is accurate in the sense that it is a cryptocurrency miner, and it is expected for an unsigned miner. Kaspersky labels this class "not-a-virus". A matching hash proves the file is the one published; a clean scan proves only that scanners found nothing that day. - Every update is cryptographically signed and verified before it installs. - Code signing (Apple notarization on Mac, a signing certificate on Windows) is the proper fix for the warnings and is on the roadmap. ## Updates Every current build updates itself: Mac, and the AppImage on Linux and WSL2. You can force a check in Settings, then Updates, then Check for updates. Wallet, payout address and settings carry over. Only the retired .deb package on Linux cannot update itself and needs a one-time move to the AppImage; the steps are at https://easybtx.com/update. ## Running a node Not needed for mining. easyNode for BTX is a separate desktop app that runs a full BTX node, with Keeper mode for a pruned node. Node Guardian is a free script that watches any BTX node and tells "the network is waiting" apart from "your node is behind". The standalone Keeper was retired on 25 September 2026; use Keeper mode in easyNode instead. Since block 244,000 on 10 October 2026, a BTX node needs v0.34.14 or later. An older node can follow a branch the rest of the network refuses. v0.34.15, released 6 October 2026, is current and fixes a 0.34.14 catch-up stall. BTX v0.34.13 to v0.34.15 publish no SHA256SUMS file, only the per-file digests GitHub shows, and the current releases are not signed. ## What BTX is A fork of Bitcoin built to survive quantum computers. It replaces ECDSA with post-quantum signatures (ML-DSA-44 and SLH-DSA), which is why addresses begin btx1z. Everything else is deliberately Bitcoin-shaped: a fixed supply, no premine, coins created only by mining, proof-of-work, and self-custody. - Supply: 20 BTX per block, halving every 525,000 blocks. No halving has happened yet. Issuance stops a fraction below 21,000,000, at 20,999,999.93. - Block time: 90 second target. The chain has run faster than target over its lifetime, roughly 66 to 81 seconds depending on the window. - Age: block 0 is stamped 19 March 2026; the first block was mined on 23 March 2026. The chain is about seven months old. - Privacy: from block 125,000 (8 June 2026) consensus stopped accepting new shielded deposits. Treat BTX as a transparent chain today. - Market: BTX has no established public market. Another coin uses the ticker BTX. Proof-of-work: dense matrix multiplication. Since block 185,000 each attempt is an inference-shaped episode, the operation tensor cores exist for. Its inputs are seeded from the chain and only a digest is kept, so no compute is delivered to anyone outside the chain. BTX does not sell AI inference today. A verifiable-compute market is named in BTX's specification as a later direction and does not exist. History: - 19 March 2026, block 0: genesis is stamped. First block mined 23 March. - Early June 2026, around block 123,000: the v0.31.0 consensus fork. - 8 June 2026, block 125,000: the shielded sunset. - Mid June 2026, around blocks 130,500 and 132,000: mining seeds bound to the parent block, then a node upgrade. - 10 August 2026, block 185,000: MatMul v4.7 activates. - 17 August 2026, block 191,690: the chain wedges. BTX Core v0.33.3 sets a difficulty floor from block 191,714 and the chain recovers the same day. - 23 September 2026, block 227,313: the chain splits. The valid chain is the one whose block 227,313 is d5f0e92f. - 10 October 2026, block 244,000: three consensus checks from v0.34.14 take effect. An HTLC preimage must be 32 bytes, shielded recovery proofs count toward a block's verification budget, and a MatMul header that only passed the quick precheck cannot be the best header. easyBTX is not the BTX core team. The chain's consensus software is written and released by the BTX project, which easyBTX has no part in and no authority over. ## Machine-readable data (no key) - https://easybtx.com/api/network : chain tip, issuance, node census, live pools - https://easybtx.com/api/nodes : public node census - https://api.btxscan.io/blocks/tip/height : the chain tip, canonical explorer API - https://easybtx.com/ai/machines : the page written for autonomous agents ## Roadmap Now: Mac on Apple silicon (Metal), Windows on NVIDIA through WSL2, Linux on NVIDIA, pool mining on BTX Pool, a built-in self-custodial wallet that sends and receives, and Deep Tune on Mac. Next: Apple notarization and Windows code signing to clear first-run warnings; a faster Mac engine. Later: AMD GPUs. ## About the project easyBTX is a personal, for-fun project. There is no company behind it and no pitch. It is free and stays free. Nothing on the site is financial advice. Mined coins may never be worth anything.
